Rosario Macaluso was born in Genk on March 7, 1956 He began his musical studies in 1970 with the Salesian Band (Don Bosco) in Liège, Director Hubert Beckers, and then at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Liège in 1971, with Peter Cox as his teacher. In 1978, he graduated with the top grade in trumpet and was awarded the gold medal.by the government. In 1981, he received the Royal Conservatory of Mons higher diploma in chamber music with distinction and was again awarded the Government gold medal. That same year, he was hired as a soloist with the orchestra of the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie. He also teaches at the Academy of Chênée. His reputation as a teacher and the surprising effectiveness of his innovative method of teaching the trumpet resulted in him being invited to replace Peter Cox as head tutor at the International Summer Academy of Wallonia from1989 until its closure in 2006, at the Mouscron Summer Academy (1990), Reggio Emilia (Italy), the Novecento Musica di Trento, etc.

In addition, he has performed as a soloist with organ, chamber orchestra, brass quartet (Fiore musicali)andr brass quintet in Belgium and abroad (Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain Austria, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg).

He has appeared several times as soloist with the Camerata Leodiensis under the direction of the late Hubert Schoonbroodt, to play, among other things, Bach’s 2nd Brandenburg Concerto, and with the Soloists of Liège chamber orchestra, under the direction of Emmanuel Koch.

He was also a professor ad interim (sight reading and transposition) at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Liège (1990-1991)

Since 1996, he has held the position of Professor of Trumpet at the Royal Conservatory of Liège.

He has played lead trumpet with the Ensemble of Modern Times, under the direction of Bernard Dekaise, as well as with the European Orchestra, under the direction of Bernard Dekaise and Maurizi Dini Ciacci, since its creation.

Prominent among his recordings are the video recording of the 2nd Bach Brandenburg Concerto, a compact disc as soloist with the musicians of the Orchestre National de France commissioned by Hitachi- France.l. For two years he was a mamber of François Glorieux group, an internationally renowned pianist and professor at the Conservatory of Ghent, with whom he toured several times as first trumpet before recording two discs.

He is also known for his outstanding musicological research on the history of the trumpet and brass in Liège in Belgium. He is the author of a study entitled "Teaching the trumpet at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Liège since 1826", published in the Brass Bulletin (published by BIM) and reprinted by the International Trumpet Guild of (USA).

In 2005 Rosario Macaluso was invited to Tchaikovsky Conservatory Moscow to give a masterclass.
